The quickest way to move from your restricted licence sooner (3 months if you are 25 years or over), (6 months if under 25 years), is to complete the New Zealand Defensive Driving Course. This NZTA approved Advance Driving Skills Course is suitable for Police and Ambulance recruits, it also qualifies for Court Referrals. It is a 9 hour comprehensive course that will give you a range of safe driving strategies and teach you to recognise hazards and circumstances that cause crashes. This intensive interactive course includes classroom theory modules and an in-car practical session. It is designed for anyone who wants to learn safer driving skills for life, & can be a valuable addition to the CV of anyone seeking employment where driving is involved. |

Structure Total time of the course is nine hours over five separate sessions. Four theory based sessions 6.00 pm-8.00 pm including an interactive CD-Rom and one in-car practical session testing your skills similar to the full licence test. | Content The course will teach you three key driving skills: By the end of the course, a defensive driver should be able to maintain progress, anticipate hazards and react defensively to adverse driving situations and conditions. |
Eligibility All drivers can complete the Defensive Driving Course. Complete the course and improve your driving skills. If seeking a time reduction on your Restricted Licence. Under 25 year olds, 18 months reduces to 12 months. You must have held your restricted licence for 6 months or more. Over 25 year olds 6 months reduces to 3 months. You can start the course any time after gaining your restricted licence. | The In-Car Session This is conducted in your own vehicle (or ours). We check your driving skills and coach you through a simulated full licence test. You will be asked to do a commentry drive, identify hazards and respond to them. This is a practice run and you can ask questions about the full licence test. This session must be completed within 60 days of your classroom session. You must bring your DDC work book and a road legal vehicle. |
