Takapuna Driving School

Takapuna Driving School was started in 1963 by a man named Ivan Egen.

Ivan and his wife lived in Takapuna with 3 children running the driving school from home.
The driving school soon became well known on the North Shore and had a reputation for
quality and value for money lessons.
Ivan taught many generations of families to drive.

He taught teenagers right through to pensioners and prided himself with giving every single
customer first class lessons with patience and tolerance.

Ivan moved to Milford, then to Browns Bay in which time the driving school grew from
strength to strength employing several part time staff to help with the work load.

Ivan ran a very successful driving school for 18 years in which time he knew the
North Shore streets like the back of his hand, not to mention the road code and traffic laws.
He loved teaching and this showed in his work with many people referring business
his way.

Ivan sold the business, reluctantly, as an opportunity to move to Brisbane came his way.
In 1981 the school was acquired by John Rule who continued on with the business
for 16 years.

And now Colin and Bev Johnston have been successfully been running the school
since 1997.

Today (2012) Ivan's grandson, Cameron Bone, 16 years, who lives on the
Shore, needed lessons. And so,with pride, we rang Takapuna Driving School and .
booked in lessons.

It is with the same high standard and patience, Cameron has been taught to drive by
Colin and I know if Ivan was alive today, he would be proud to see what he started
almost 50 years ago, still going strong.

Thank you Colin.

Note:-  Cameron passed the new, more difficult and longer Restricted Licence Test on Wednesday 14th March. Congratulations Cameron.
